Barcelos, Portugal - City Of Famous Rooster

Braga District

Braga District is located in northwest Portugal and is composed of 14 municipalities, with Braga as its capital. Its area is very diverse – from high mountains on the east in Peneda-Geres National Park to flat and hilly terrains in the southwest. Braga District is full of amazing lush green landscapes, lovely historic towns, many hiking trails, and stunning religious sites known around the whole world. It’s also where the famous and lucky Rooster of Barcelos was born! Pack your things and prepare to be enchanted by the Braga District.

Best time to visit

Braga District has a Mediterranean climate with warm/hot summers with temperatures around 20-25°C, and warm winters with temperatures around 10°C. All year round there is a lot of sun which makes this region a great destination at any time of the year. If crowds don’t bother you – visit during the high season from June to August. If you prefer quieter times and lower temperatures choose any month in the lower season. Personally, we think Spring and Autumn are the best.
