Explore the most beautiful villages in Provence! Discover famous destinations and lesser-known gems, perfect for your southern France itinerary.

Provence is located within the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in the South of France. It stretches from the Rhône River in the west, to the Italian border in the east and includes the departments of Var, Bouches‑du‑Rhône, Alpes‑de‑Haute‑Provence, and parts of Alpes‑Maritimes and Vaucluse. The largest city in the area is Marseille.
This iconic region is best known for its endless lavender fields, olive groves, charming hilltop villages, breathtaking landscapes, and Roman ruins. It’s a timeless and enchanting place that has inspired artists, writers, and dreamers for centuries.
Whether you want to explore colorful Provençal towns, sip wine in vineyards, step back in time among medieval streets, hike through green hills and dramatic gorges, or simply relax among fields of blooming lavender – Provence offers a perfect mix of all of that for you to enjoy. It’s a region that invites you to slow down, soak in the beauty, and fall in love with the French art de vivre.
Provence enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Summer is the most popular time, especially during the lavender bloom (late June to early August), but it can be hot, crowded, and expensive. Spring and autumn offer pleasant warm weather, fewer tourists, and gorgeous scenery – ideal for a more relaxed and authentic experience. We visited in late spring and absolutely loved it.
