From ancient Moorish fortresses to fantasy-like creations… Discover striking castles in Andalusia that you must visit.
Andalusia is one of 17 autonomous communities in Spain, the most populous one and the second-largest in the country. Its territory is divided into 8 provinces: Almeria, Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaen, Malaga, and Seville. It’s located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula and is the only European region with both the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean coastlines. The capital city of Andalusia is the famous and charming Seville. Over the years the region was settled and influenced by civilizations like the Iberians, Phoenicians, Romans, and Moors. An interesting fact is that during Islamic times, Cordoba surpassed Constantinople to be Europe’s biggest city!
Andalusia is where famous flamenco and bullfights were born. It’s home to the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe – Cadiz. One of its cities – Malaga is the birthplace of famous artist Pablo Picasso, and Alhambra in Granada is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Spain. Andalusia is definitely a place that will leave you enchanted, no matter when you’ll visit.
Andalusia has a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. If really high temperatures, around 30°C, and crowds don’t bother you – visit during the high season from June to August. If you prefer quieter times and lower temperatures, around 15-20°C, choose any month in the lower season. Personally, we think Spring and Autumn are the best.
