Casares
Casares is located about 15km from Estepona. It’s a white village in Andalusia yet unknown to many travelers who visit Costa del Sol, a beautiful hidden gem. And it’s a shame as it’s a delightful place worth exploring! Casares is a hilltop village, perched on a small hill. It offers a wonderful mix of history, stunning views, tranquility, and mesmerizing southern Spain charm. So if you’re looking for a peaceful and scenic getaway from Estepona, Casares is the place for you.
Ronda
Ronda is located about 65km from Estepona. It’s one of the most picturesque places in Andalusia, dramatically perched on the edges of a deep gorge that splits the town in two. The iconic Puente Nuevo bridge offers stunning views over the El Tajo canyon and connects the historic and new parts of the town.
Beyond the scenery, Ronda will charm you with its cozy streets, Moorish architecture, and one of the oldest bullrings in Spain (after all, it’s considered the birthplace of bullfighting!). Connect your visit with nearby Setenil de las Bodegas, and you’ll get one of the best day trips from Estepona!
Gibraltar
Gibraltar is located about 50km from Estepona. It’s a tiny British overseas territory, which covers an area of only 6.8 km². Gibraltarians are British citizens and they have their own iconic red telephone booths, Royal Mail letter boxes and of course, they eat fish & chips while enjoying a pint in the pub. Gibraltar is one of the best places to visit near Estepona, especially if you fancy the slice of the United Kingdom with sunshine almost all the time!
Malaga
Malaga is located about 85km from Estepona. It’s a place where good weather, rich history, a vibrant culinary scene, world-class museums, sandy beaches, and a lively atmosphere come together perfectly. Malaga is best known for being the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and home to some of his works, holiday-perfect beaches, one of the largest Arab castles in Andalusia with striking views over the surroundings, and a food scene full of fresh seafood and tapas. For sure, Malaga will be one of the most memorable day trips from Estepona.
Marbella
Marbella is located about 60km from Estepona. It’s one of the most popular holiday destinations on Costa del Sol and one of the most popular day trips from Estepona. Marbella is most famous for its vivid nightlife scene with many nightclubs and bars, beautiful sandy beaches, an enchanting old town with a typical Andalusian vibe, as well as golf courses, and luxury shopping. There you’ll also find some unique sculptures designed by Salvador Dali!
Travel tip. If after visiting Marbella you’ll still have energy, you can also visit a tiny and charming white village of Ojen.
Ojen
Ojen is located only 40km from Estepona, which makes it one of the easiest and most rewarding day trips from the city. It’s a beautiful white village not known to many travelers, which has managed to preserve its traditional Andalusian charm. Ojen is located between the Mediterranean coast and the beautiful Parque Nacional Sierra de las Nieves, offering both scenic beauty and peaceful village vibes.
Interestingly, the name Ojen comes from the Arabic word hoxán, which means “rough place” – though today, it’s quite the opposite! It’s a tranquil, picturesque, and welcoming place.
Caminito del Rey
Caminito del Rey is located about 100km from Estepona. It’s one of the most thrilling hikes in Andalusia which traces a narrow walkway pinned along the steep walls of a dramatic gorge. Once known as the “world’s most dangerous path”, Caminito del Rey is now fully restored and totally safe. Yet still delivers some adrenaline and spectacular views! This 7.7 km one-way trail winds through cliffs, canyons, and a hanging footbridge over the Guadalhorce River. If you’re up for an adventure, Caminito del Rey can’t be missed on your list of day trips from Estepona.
Tarifa
Tarifa is located about 75km from Estepona. It’s the southernmost point of Spain and mainland Europe. Tarifa sits right across Morocco, in a place where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. Thanks to strong, constant winds Tarifa is named Europe’s capital of the wind, and hence is one of the world’s most popular destinations for water sports. There, you’ll also find a charming old town with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, and lovely squares. With a chilled vibe Tarifa will definitely be one of the most scenic and relaxing day trips from Estepona.
Travel tip. Tarifa is a small town, so after exploring, you can also head to beautiful Bolonia Beach located only 20km away.
Mijas Pueblo
Mijas Pueblo is located about 65km from Estepona. It’s one of the most beautiful Andalusian white villages Costa del Sol can offer. Mijas is located at the altitude of 430 m a.s.l, packed with a maze of narrow cobbled streets, countless charming corners, and whitewashed houses decorated with colorful flower pots. Also, from the Mijas Pueblo you can admire stunning views over the coast!
Setenil de las Bodegas
Setenil de las Bodegas is located about 85km from Estepona. It’s undoubtedly one of the most unique places to visit in southern Spain, located not far from Ronda. What makes it stand out are the picturesque cave-like houses, restaurants, and small shops built directly into the cliffs! It’s a truly fascinating blend of nature and architecture! But don’t worry, there are more things to do in Setenil de las Bodegas that will make the trip from Estepona worth taking. Winding streets, vibrant squares, historic landmarks, and breathtaking viewpoints await! Also be sure to combine your visit with nearby Ronda.
Benalmadena
Benalmadena is located about 65km from Estepona. It’s one of our favourite white villages near Malaga, which has retained its authenticity to this day. Benalmadena Pueblo is full of narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses decorated with flowers. However, it’s most famous for Colomares Castle, a building that looks like a fairy-tale castle, but in reality, it’s… a monument dedicated to C. Columbus and his discovery of America, built by only 3 people!
While there, you can also head to Benalmadena Costa, the coastal part of the town which is one of the most popular holiday destinations on Costa del Sol. There you’ll find sandy beaches, an award-winning marina, a beautiful green park, a unique castle, and beach restaurants serving fresh local dishes named espetos. If you’re looking for a day trip from Estepona packed with both culture and relaxation, Benalmadena will be an amazing choice.
Antequera
Antequera is located about 130km from Estepona. It’s one of the most underrated historic towns in Andalusia, yet not well-known to many travelers. Antequera is located at a higher altitude of 575m and is surrounded by a beautiful mountainous landscape. The town offers a wonderful mix of rich heritage, scenic views, and authentic Andalusian charm.
