About Tabernas Desert
To truly understand Oasys MiniHollywood and why it exists in Almeria, you first need to learn a bit about the Tabernas Desert.
While there are several semi-arid regions across Europe, Tabernas holds the title of the only true desert on the continent. It receives less than 25 centimeters of rainfall per year and boasts an average annual temperature of around 18ºC.
But why did the Tabernas Desert become a giant movie set for spaghetti westerns? It’s all thanks to its striking resemblance to the deserts in the United States! In case you don’t know, Spaghetti Westerns were low-budget Western movies made mostly by Italian directors between the 1960s and 1980s – hence the nickname “spaghetti”. With its dry, dramatic landscape and endless blue skies, Tabernas offered the perfect backdrop for tales of cowboys, outlaws, and dusty towns.
What was filmed in Tabernas Desert?
Among dozens of films shot in Tabernas Desert, you’ll find popular titles like: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Lawrence of Arabia, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and A Fistful of Dollars. More recent productions include Exodus: Gods and Kings, Assassins Creed, and Strange Way of Life. Some scenes from the 6th season of Game of Thrones or Black Mirror were filmed here as well! So as you can see, some of the greatest movie stars set foot in this desert!
As the golden era of Western filmmaking in the Tabernas Desert came to an end, the old movie sets were left behind. But instead of being abandoned, they were transformed into tourist attractions! Today, you can visit three historic movie sets: Oasys MiniHollywood, Fort Bravo, and Western Leone. Of the three, Oasys MiniHollywood has grown into one of the top attractions in the Almeria region, offering a full Wild West experience.

Discover Oasys Mini Hollywood Theme Park
Howdy! We’ve finally arrived at Oasys MiniHollywood – the wild west town where you can enjoy various western shows and attractions, an aquatic zone, and a zoological reserve. Fun day for big and small ones guaranteed! Ready to explore? Let’s take a closer look at the different areas of Oasys MiniHollywood and all the exciting things you can do in each one.
Western Town
Western Town is the most entertaining part of Oasys MiniHollywood and the one that draws the most attention. Everything you see here was once used in movies and is still in good condition. Here you’ll feel, and can even dress up, as almost any Western character as you wander through the town and explore the area. There’s a saloon, sheriff’s office, bank, railway, church, mine, general store, cemetery, stables, and so much more. Don’t forget to keep your eyes open and spot many incredible details.
On the main square of the Western Town, you’ll find the Cinema Museum, home to a large collection of 200+ movie posters and vintage cinematographic equipment. There are items like projectors, magic lanterns, Chinese shadows, or kaleidoscopes. Just a few steps away is the Carriage Museum with chariots and cars that were used in some of the productions.
Near the square, there is also a souvenir shop and photo studio where you can rent a costume of the Western characters, dress up, and do a quick photo session inside or around the town. Such a fun memory to take home! And don’t forget to visit Cactus Garden which is home to 250+ species of cacti from all over the world.
Western Show
Western Show is the most awaited attraction at Oasys MiniHollywood that takes place right in the main square of the Western Town. Two or three times a day (depending on the season) actors put on a spectacular 20-minute live show packed with action and gunfights. It’s like a Western movie in real life – definitely something you don’t want to miss!
For the best view, we recommend watching the show from one of the nearby building balconies. Just make sure to “claim your spot” early enough – some visitors start lining up nearly an hour in advance to secure the best places! If you miss a performance, don’t worry – the same show is repeated later in the day. During our visit, it looked like the afternoon show was less crowded.
Can Can Dance Show
Can-Can Dance Show is another fantastic performance that brings the spirit of the Wild West to life. In the Yellow Rose Saloon, two or three times a day (depending on the season), you can watch about 20 minutes long mesmerizing show performed by cancan dancers. It’s a vibrant and entertaining experience you won’t want to miss!
If you’re not planning to sit at a table with a drink, we recommend heading upstairs to the balcony – the view from above is great! And just like with the Western Show, it’s a good idea to arrive a bit early to grab a good spot.
Zoological Reserve
After exploring the Western Town, it’s time to head to the next part of Oasys MiniHollywood – the Zoological Reserve. It was created in 1997 and is home to around 800 animals from 200 different species, along with over 4000 trees, all thoughtfully integrated into the unique Tabernas Desert landscape. According to the park, it’s a place of recovery, environmental education, research, and conservation of endangered species.
As you wander through the zoo, you’ll have a chance to admire animals like sand cats, meerkats, giraffes, lions, mountain zebras, cheetahs, ostriches, lizards, and snakes. One of our favorite spots was the Reptile House (probably because we used to own crested geckos). There’s also a parrot show 3 times a day hosted in the reserve’s amphitheater.
Our opinion on the Zoological Reserve
We’ll be honest – visiting the Zoological Reserve wasn’t our goal as we usually avoid places like that. We knew that at some point we’ll find it somewhere in the area, but frankly, we were expecting something much smaller, and purely created for human delight. And while it still is, it didn’t look as bad as we feared. Compared to other zoos we’ve seen, most animals at Oasys seemed to have a decent amount of space, and overall, they looked healthy and well cared for. We had the hardest time looking at the birds as many of them didn’t seem to have enough space to fly freely.
On the one hand, it’s nice to see so many animal species with your own eyes, but on the other hand… You know, just a moral problem. What we enjoyed most about the Zoological Reserve wasn’t the animals, but the views over the surrounding landscape. In our opinion, they’re actually better than the ones from the Western Town! This part of the park is set in a truly picturesque location! So even if you’re not a zoo fan like us, we still recommend taking a stroll through the area – just for the views.
Aquatic Zone
During the summer months in Oasys MiniHollywood you can also take advantage of the Aquatic Zone. There you can take a cooling dip in one of the pools, hop into the jacuzzi, or enjoy a drink from a restaurant. Kids can also have some fun on the water slides.

Ticket prices
Standard entrance ticket to Oasys MiniHollywood costs €30 for adults, and €20 for children under 13 years old (January 2026). There are many other options available, like with buffet and even an annual pass. To check them all visit minihollywoodoasys.com official website. You can buy tickets online or at the ticket office.
As for where to leave your car – if you’ll find a place you can leave it just before Oasis near the road. There is also covered parking right before the entrance to the theme park. For that you’ll need to buy a ticket – either in the ticket office or online.

Things to do near Oasys MiniHollywood in Tabernas Desert
Tabernas Town
Tabernas is located only about 6.5km, a 10 min ride by car, from Oasys MiniHollywood. If you still have some energy after a day of fun you can pay a short visit to this sleepy small town in Tabernas Desert. There you’ll find remains of Tabernas Castle (es. Castillo de Tabernas) that are sitting on a hill watching over the area and providing nice views over the desert and the town. The second place you might want to visit is the 17th-century Parish Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation (es. Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Senhora de la Encarnación).

Oasys Mini Hollywood – Summing up & Our opinion
We really enjoyed visiting Oasys MiniHollywood in Almeria The whole movie set and shows brought us so much fun! We can’t even choose which show we enjoyed most – all were amazing! We loved how real the whole experience was, and sometimes we had to pinch ourselves for a reminder that we are still in the 21st century.
As for the zoo part – not our cup of tea, but we also can’t deny that most of the time we enjoyed it. Sure, we’d definitely prefer to see all the animals in the natural environment and there were moments when a few tears appeared, but overall it was ok. Views over the Tabernas Desert and its surroundings were truly spectacular from that part of the Oasys MiniHollywood. One thing is sure – Oasys Mini Hollywood provides an unforgettable experience.
For us, visiting Oasys MiniHollywood was a day trip from Almeria and exploring it took us about 6 hours.
