If you’re wondering if you can start in Oropesa – sure! It doesn’t really matter in which of these two cities you’ll start, just choose a place more suitable for you.
Via Verde winds along the coast with many viewpoints and rest areas. So if you get tired, you’ll for sure find a picturesque place to rest for a bit. Just look around and you’ll find the perfect spot to rest and snatch a picture or two.
Don’t miss visiting watchtowers, Torre Colomera and Torre de la Corda, which were used to defend the coast from pirate attacks.
Another place you shouldn’t miss along Via Verde is Renega Beach. It’s a natural stone beach with a rocky shore and many hidden caves. The beach isn’t visible straight from the route because of the dense pine forest, so when you see a Renega Beach Bar take a turn and go down the slope until you reach the beach.
At the last kilometer of the route, you’ll reach the 600-meter-long El Bovalar tunnel. You can either go through the tunnel or choose a more picturesque route with great views over the sea, pines, and rosemary scent in the air. If you wish to go that way, right before the entrance to the tunnel go to a path on the right and follow the signs.

Practical information about Via Verde del Mar
- Start early if you wish to avoid crowds. We began at 9 am on one September Saturday and there were already lots of people (mostly cyclists and runners). When we were heading back to Benicassim, around 12 pm, many were just starting and the route was getting really crowded.
- Don’t forget to take a lot of water and a hat. Via Verde is an open space without many places to hide from the sun. And it can get really hot there!
- Take your swimming suit if you want to enjoy a little break on the peaceful beach.
How to get to Via Verde Del Mar starting point?
You can choose to start walking/cycling Via Verde either in Benicassim or Oropesa.
If you travel by car, you can leave your car in this parking lot right at the beginning of the route in Benicassim.
In Oropesa, this parking lot right next to the Tourist Office will be a great option. In both cities, you can also look for parking spaces on the nearby streets.

Via Verde del Mar Spain – Summing up & our opinion
If you feel like going on a picturesque yet easy and relaxing walk – Via Verde should be your choice while exploring Region of Valencia. For us, it was a half-day walk during our few weeks stay in Benicassim. We did it in early September and back then the weather was very nice, perfect for such a trip. Not too cold, not too hot, just perfect.
We found walking the Via Verde route very pleasant. Some parts were a bit more boring than others (like the tunnel) but overall there is nothing to complain about. The walk is pleasant, easy, and full of amazing views!
The whole route (start and end in Benicassim) took us about 6 hours. We can definitely recommend it to everyone.
