Southern Spain Itinerary – Places To Visit In 10 days

Hola! Welcome to Southern Spain, an enchanting area packed with sunshine, interesting history, diverse landscapes, picturesque villages, lively cities, and many amazing places to visit. If you’re planning a few days-long trip to Spain and trying to figure out what to see and do, you’re in good hands! In this post, we’ll show you a ready-to-go 10-day Southern Spain itinerary. We think it’s perfect for first-time visitors as it’ll allow you to discover the best this region has to offer.

Until today, we’ve lived in the South of Spain for almost a year in various places near Malaga, Almeria, and Cadiz. And it quickly became one of our favorite regions in Spain! We visited quite a lot of places and got to know the area pretty well.

Note. This Southern Spain itinerary focuses on 10 full days reserved for exploration. Days of your arrival/departure aren’t included. Also, we assumed you’d move between the cities in the mornings/evenings and arrive/depart from Malaga airport. Most of the route can be comfortably done by public transport, but at some point it would be good to rent a car to shorten travel times. You’ll find more details throughout the post.

How much time do you need in Southern Spain?

We think that the whole 10 days will give you a nice overview of Southern Spain and a chance to discover the major highlights. But you’ll experience only the essence – there is still a lot more to explore. Like a lot, LOT more! So, for a proper tour around, and without rushing, we think you should consider staying at least 3 weeks.

Ultimately, the required time will depend on the number of places you want to see. At the end of this post, we’ll give you a few recommendations on what to do if you have more time to spare in Southern Spain.

What’s the best time to visit Southern Spain?

In Southern Spain, you’ll experience a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. We think the best time to visit is spring or early autumn – the weather is warm and sunny, there are fewer crowds, and the prices are a bit lower.

Summer months can be extremely hot with temperatures often reaching 40°C, and with a lot of people around. If you prefer a quieter visit and lower temperatures (but still a lot of sun), around 15-20°C, you’ll be happy to visit during winter.

How to move around Southern Spain?

The fastest way of moving between all the mentioned places is by car. You can easily rent the best one for your needs through the Rental Cars website and just pick it up at the airport.

Spain is also well-connected by public transport. Between big cities, you can move quickly using trains and buses. The matter becomes a bit more complicated in the case of smaller towns/villages and more remote places – you won’t always be able to find connections, or you’ll find ones that last a very long time, and here, a rental car is golden.

You can search for the connections that might interest you on Renfe for trains, ALSA for buses, and rome2rio.com for all possible options.

Once it was the capital of Islamic Spain, and now it is a place where history, culture, and stunning architecture blend perfectly. Seville is the heart and soul of Southern Spain, and by many is considered to be the most beautiful city in the whole country! Also, it’s probably the most passionate city in Andalusia – after all, it’s exactly where flamenco was born! What’s waiting for you in Seville? One day in Ronda is perfectly enough to see all the town landmarks and get a good feel of what the town is all about.

Don’t miss: Puente Nuevo bridge, viewpoints: Mirador de Ronda and Mirador de Aldehuela, Arab Baths, Walls of Ronda, Cuenca Gardens, House of the Moorish King, and bullring.
