But what makes a visit even more interesting is the permanent exhibition of medieval siege weapons, including full-size replicas of trebuchets, battering rams, and other war machines, all built from 13th-century sketches!

Experience Carrieres de Lumieres show
Without a doubt, one of the most unforgettable things to do in Les Baux de Provence is visiting the Carrières de Lumières, a unique, immersive art experience located in a former quarry, at the foot of the village.
This spectacular multimedia show projects stunning visual art exhibitions onto massive quarry walls, accompanied by beautifully curated music that brings the entire space to life. Each year it features different themed exhibitions – for example, during our visit, we saw one named ‘Egyptian Pharaohs – From Cheops to Ramesses II’.
The immersive nature of the exhibition lets you literally walk through the art, as moving images dance across the walls, floors, and ceilings around you. It feels like stepping into another world, and honestly, it’s one of the coolest experiences you can have in Provence.
Carrières de Lumières is open year-round, and while most visits last about an hour, you’re free to stay longer and soak in the atmosphere.

Where to park in Les Baux de Provence?
In Les Baux de Provence, you’ll find several parking lots along the roads at the foot of the village. Please note that all parking areas are paid, so remember to pay at the parking meter and display the ticket in your car.
Travel tip. During high season and holidays, parking spaces fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early. This way you’ll avoid driving around with dozens of other cars and waiting for some space to become available (been there, done that!).
To Les Baux de Provence by public transport
Unfortunately, public transportation options to Les Baux de Provence are limited. There are no direct train connections to the village (closest train stations are in Arles, Avignon or Nimes). Our opinion about Les Baux
For us, a visit to Les Baux de Provence was a day trip from nearby Orgon where we lived for a few weeks. We visited in early May, and to our surprise, the village was packed with tourists, which was quite shocking for us. Exploring everything we wanted took us about 4 hours.
Les Baux took us by surprise with its mix of dramatic setting, striking views, interesting history, and immersive art experience. Judging by the photos, we expected a beautiful spot but what we experienced exceeded our expectations!
We enjoyed wandering through the village and exploring the castle ruins, but the highlight of our visit was without a doubt the Carrières de Lumières. Art projected on the massive walls of the quarry, accompanied by perfectly synchronized music… Just wow! It was easily one of the most unique and memorable experiences we’ve had while traveling.
Cons? Only unexpected huge crowds. It was the only place in Provence where we encountered that many tourists (and at the beginning of May!). Still, we think Les Baux fully deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful villages in Provence.
