Without a doubt, yes! It’s one of those places that genuinely looks unreal in photos and somehow manages to look even more incredible in person. Whether you’re a hiker, a photographer, or just someone who appreciates spectacular scenery, a visit to Provençal Colorado will not disappoint. It’s one of the most unique natural attractions in France!
The Provencal Colorado is best known for its spectacular ochre landscapes, featuring towering cliffs, canyons, and rock formations in vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.
Most visitors need 2 to 3 hours to explore Provençal Colorado comfortably. This gives you enough time to walk one of the marked trails, admire the colorful ochre formations, stop at the main viewpoints, and take plenty of photos. The shorter trail takes around 50 minutes, while the longer one usually takes about 2 hours.
They’re similar, but each offers a slightly different experience! While both are famous for their ochre landscapes, many visitors find the Provencal Colorado more impressive thanks to its larger size, diverse hiking trails, and generally fewer crowds. Personally, we prefer Colorado Provencal, but if you have the time, we highly recommend visiting both – they complement each other beautifully.

Trails in Colorado Provençal
There are two distinct trails to explore in Provencal Colorado: the Sahara Circuit and the Belvederes Circuit. Both are circular routes that offer incredible scenery and are well signposted throughout the site. You’ll receive a trail map at the entrance, making it easy to choose the route that suits you best.
Sahara Circuit
This is the most popular trail in Colorado Provencal, accessible to all. The Sahara Circuit takes around 40-50 minutes to complete and covers a distance of 2.1km, with an altitude difference of just 10 meters. But don’t let the short distance fool you—this trail is packed with jaw-dropping scenery, including vibrant ochre cliffs, colorful rock formations, and some of the site’s most iconic landscapes. Simply follow the blue trail markers.

Belvederes Circuit
The Belvederes Circuit offers breathtaking panoramic views over the entire Colorado Provencal and the surrounding countryside. The trail is 3.9 km long, takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, and has an elevation gain of approximately 70 metres.
While still manageable for most visitors, it’s considered moderately difficult and isn’t suitable for people with reduced mobility or strollers. The extra effort is well worth it, as the elevated viewpoints provide perspectives you simply won’t experience on the Sahara Circuit alone. To follow this route, look for the orange trail markers.

Practical tips for visiting the Colorado Provencal
To make the most of your visit to Provencal Colorado, wear comfortable walking shoes, as some sections can be uneven and dusty. In summer, temperatures in Provence can be very high, so bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat, and try to arrive early in the morning to avoid both the heat and the crowds. The colorful ochre dust can stain light-colored clothing and shoes, so keep that in mind when choosing what to wear.
Also, great news for dog owners – dogs are welcome on the trails, but must be kept on a leash. Last but not least, don’t forget your camera – the vibrant landscapes and panoramic viewpoints make Colorado Provencal one of the most photogenic places in southern France!

Our opinion about the Provencal Colorado
For us, visiting Colorado Provencal was a day trip from nearby Orgon, where we lived for a few weeks. It was combined with a visit to the beautiful medieval village of Simiane-la-Rotonde and Sault lavender village. We visited the site during an early June morning, and to our surprise, we only came across a few other visitors. We chose to walk the Belvederes Circuit, and it took us around 2 hours at a relaxed pace to complete it.
What can we say? Provencal Colorado is definitely one of the most remarkable natural sites we’ve ever seen. What impressed us most was how unexpected and otherworldly the landscape felt. We’ve already seen Roussillon but in our opinion, it doesn’t compare to the scale and variety of scenery found here. Also, the panoramic viewpoints along the Belvederes Circuit completely blew us away – simply breathtaking!
