Our opinion about L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
For us, a visit to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue was a day trip from nearby Orgon, where we lived for a few weeks. We combined it with a visit to the nearby Fontaine de Vaucluse. It was in late May on a Sunday, and during that time, the town was incredibly busy with other visitors around. We expected crowds, but not such overwhelming crowds! The town was absolutely packed in the morning hours. Exploring everything we wanted, including exploring some antique shops, took us about 3 hours.
Overall, we liked L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. We even visited it twice in one day! We explored in the morning during the famous Sunday markets and returned in the afternoon once the Provençal market stalls had packed up. So we got to experience the famous Sunday market in all its glory and it was a fascinating experience. We even picked up some cool stuff for our apartment! While antiques aren’t our thing, wandering through the stalls was still great fun!
But we truly fell for the town later in the day, when the crowds thinned out and the pace slowed. With fewer people around, we could finally appreciate the charm of the old town, the canals, and the atmosphere. Earlier, with the busy streets and packed stalls, it was just so hard to take it all in. Seeing both sides of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue gave us a fuller picture – and made us appreciate it even more.
